Brazilian beef exports to EU may resume in 2027

The Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec) estimates that Brazilian beef exports to the European Union could resume by the first half of 2027. Roberto Perosa, president of Abiec, stated that a resolution is unlikely within the current year.

The trade suspension, which took effect on September 3, stems from new European Union regulations regarding the use of antimicrobials in animal products. Brazil was specifically named in the regulation for failing to provide timely information to guarantee compliance with these new standards, unlike 92 other countries or regions that were cleared.

The beef sector faces particular complexity because the EU requires guarantees regarding antimicrobial use throughout the entire lifecycle of the animal. The Brazilian government has proposed a transition period to the EU, aiming to demonstrate the absence of prohibited products through a phased approach.
