Brazilian businessman Thiago Brennand sentenced to 31 years for rape

A São Paulo court sentenced entrepreneur Thiago Brennand to 31 years, 5 months and 24 days in a closed‑regime prison for rape, physical aggression and related offenses against his former partner. The ruling by the 1st Court of Porto Feliz also ordered him to pay R$ 100 000 in compensation to the victim. The crimes, committed in 2021, included forcing the victim to tattoo Brennand’s initials on her body and other acts of sexual violence. Brennand, already known for a prior assault captured on gym CCTV, had earlier been convicted of rape and threats, receiving an eight‑year term and a R$ 200 000 damages award, but was acquitted in a separate case involving a massage therapist. He is currently detained at the Álvaro de Carvalho 2 penitentiary in Potim, interior São Paulo.
