Brazilian Chamber Committee Approves FGTS Use for Personal‑Defense Firearms

Brazil's Public Safety Commission in the Chamber of Deputies approved Project Law 3824/25, allowing workers with active FGTS accounts to withdraw funds each year on their birthday to buy firearms, ammunition and essential accessories for personal defence. The withdrawal is limited to the cost of the items and requires documentation proving lawful gun registration and a valid purchase authorization. The FGTS Curator Council has 90 days to set detailed regulations after the proposal becomes law.

The measure was recommended by delegate Paulo Bilynskyj (PL‑SP) and authored by deputy Marcos Pollon (PL‑MS), who argue it secures the right to legitimate self‑defence for workers facing violence. The proposal now moves to the Labor, Finance and Constitution committees and must be approved by the full Chamber and the Senate before becoming law.
