Brazilian cinema celebrated at Olhar de Cinema and Annecy festivals with multiple award wins

The 15th Olhar de Cinema festival in Brazil screened 80 films and featured competitive sections for features and shorts. The Alagoan feature "Olhe Para Mim" by director Rafhael Barbosa won three awards – Best Sound, Best Art Direction and Best Direction – while other Brazilian titles earned prizes for acting, screenplay, editing and cinematography.

In June, a slate of Brazilian animated works will be presented at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Festival in France. Selections include "O Filho da Puta" (Otto Guerra et al.), "Cidade das Rosas" (Ana Barcabogante & Siso Barros), "Lagoa do Abandono" (Diego Maia) and several shorts such as "um corpo sem cavalo?" and "Amanhecer no Edifício Terezinha". Directors emphasized the need for sustained public support and funding to cement Brazil’s growing presence on the world animation stage.
