Cuiabá’s 23rd Cinemato Festival Announces Record 598 Submissions

The 23rd edition of the Festival de Cinema de Cuiabá (Cinemato) will be held from 29 June to 5 July 2026 at the Teatro da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso in Cuiabá. Backed by the Mato Grosso state government, the festival received a record 598 film entries from 26 states and the Federal District, up from 458 in 2025.

The competitive program includes 15 short films and seven feature‑length titles selected from national and Mato‑grossense productions. Awards comprise the traditional Troféu Coxiponé, a popular‑jury prize, and the 2nd Dira Paes Award recognizing a Mato‑grossense woman for work on women’s and environmental issues.

This edition honors filmmaker, playwright and director Amauri Tangará, a migrant who has shaped Mato Grosso’s cultural scene. The festival’s theme, “Migration – human mobility and climate change,” will be explored through seminars, workshops and panels on related social and environmental topics.
