Brazilian cities advise residents on sewage connections and water supply disruptions

The Companhia Catarinense de Águas e Saneamento (Casan) in Chapecó warned residents of the São Pedro, Vila Mantelli and Unochapecó neighborhoods not to connect their properties to the sewage system before official authorization. Premature connections could cause blockages, leaks, foul odors, health risks and delay the finalisation of the network, which is slated for completion in the second half of the year.

In João Monlevade, the municipal water department reported that theft of electrical cables and a Cemig meter at a supply unit in the Satélite area disrupted water service to the Mirante das Águas neighbourhood and part of Loanda. The department, together with police and the electricity provider, is working to repair the system. Director José Afonso Martins said, "Unfortunately, the theft of cables and public equipment directly affects the provision of essential services to the population," and urged residents to use water sparingly until normal supply resumes.
