Brazilian cities Campinas and Maricá unveil new film production incentive schemes

The municipality of Campinas has started a 24‑month pilot called “Projeto Piloto Intersecretarias Filma Campinas”. Coordinated by the Department of Culture, the program will create integrated procedures for film permits, a location‑image bank and a registry of local audiovisual professionals, and it plans to assess economic, cultural and tourism impacts, including possible cash‑rebate mechanisms. Douglas Menezes, director of the Department of Culture, and Culture and Tourism Secretary Alexandra Caprioli say the initiative aims to attract productions, generate jobs and strengthen the city’s creative economy.

In the neighboring municipality of Maricá, the Companhia de Cultura e Turismo da Maricá (Maré) announced the Filmar Maricá 2026 program with two public calls totalling R$20 million. The first call allocates up to R$3 million for the development of up to 15 projects (fiction, documentary and animation), offering R$200 000 per selected proposal. The second call provides up to R$17 million for the production of up to nine feature‑length works, requiring at least 50 % of shooting days to occur in Maricá and offering non‑reimbursable funding. The program is intended to create jobs, stimulate local hotels and services, and strengthen regional producers and talent.
