Brazilian cities enforce mandatory public transport vehicle inspections

The municipality of Petrolina in Pernambuco announced that the deadline for the second mandatory inspection of public‑transport vehicles older than five years expires on Friday (31). Operators of municipal, inter‑municipal, school, charter, mototaxi, taxi and tourism bus services must appear at the Autarquia Municipal de Mobilidade (AMMPLA) between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., pay the applicable fee and schedule the inspection to ensure vehicle safety.

In Barbacena, Minas Gerais, municipal security officials and the urban mobility directorate conducted a joint inspection of city buses on Tuesday (28). Inspectors reviewed documentation, tire condition, door operation and accessibility elevators. The operation resulted in four vehicles having their authorizations revoked, three buses with inoperative accessibility lifts and two buses cited for multiple body‑work defects. Pedro Souza, head of traffic operations, said the action reinforces routine safety monitoring for passengers and drivers.
