Brazilian cities experience water supply disruptions amid utility maintenance

In Itabira, Minas Gerais, the local water authority Saae announced a preventive maintenance operation scheduled for Thursday, 21 May, from 08:00 to 17:00. The work, carried out by miner Vale on the Rio de Peixe system, will temporarily suspend water service to the treatment plant’s distribution area. Residents in neighborhoods such as Abóboras, Bálsamos, Conceição, Fênix, Jardim Belvedere, and others were advised to conserve stored water. Saae expects water to resume progressively after the repairs are completed.

Meanwhile, in Pará, the water concessionaire Águas do Pará completed emergency maintenance on a pump at the ETA 01 treatment plant. The intervention caused reduced pressure and temporary interruptions across many districts, including Vila Rica, Altamira, and Bairro da Paz. Since Wednesday night, the provider has been restoring service gradually and expects full normalization by the end of Thursday, 21 May. Customers were directed to contact the company via phone, WhatsApp, or its mobile app for assistance.
