Brazilian cities host cycling events to mark National Cyclist Day

Juazeiro do Norte in Ceará will hold its first organized ride on 16 August, a 10‑kilometre loop that also celebrates the opening of the newly paved Avenida Otaciano José de Oliveira. The avenue project, the first delivery of the city’s PSIU urban infrastructure programme, includes 5.8 km of asphalt, new signage, curbs, LED street lighting and drainage works. Registration is free, with 650 spots available for participants.

In the Federal District, cyclists will gather for a Bicicletada on the Eixão on 2 August, launching a series of activities for the National Cyclist Day on 19 August. The ride, organized by Bicicletada DF (Massa Crítica) and the civil‑society group Rodas da Paz, follows a route from the southern to the northern stretch of the Eixão. The event commemorates the 20th anniversary of the death of cyclist Pedro Davison, a symbol of the city’s road‑safety campaign, and includes calls for safer streets and greater respect for cyclists.
