Brazilian cities invest millions in school reinforcement programs

The municipality of Contagem announced an R$ 8 million expansion of its Reinforcement School program, aiming to serve up to 5,800 primary‑school students in Portuguese and mathematics. The 2026 edition will hire 161 teachers, with classes beginning on 10 August after a diagnostic assessment of all participants.

In Diamantino, the local government opened a new unit of the CNEC for the EMEI Criança Feliz early‑childhood school, enrolling more than 280 children. The partnership, formalised through a collaboration agreement signed by Mayor Chico Mendes and CNEC director Alex Tarcísio Santos Ferreira, also attracted around 550 applications from prospective staff, underscoring community interest in the upgraded facilities.
