Brazil municipal education initiatives

In early August 2026 Brazilian municipalities rolled out a series of education programmes aimed at expanding learning opportunities and strengthening student safety. On 2 August, Contagem announced an R$ 8 million expansion of its Reinforcement School programme, adding 161 teachers to serve up to 5,800 primary‑school pupils in Portuguese and mathematics, while nearby Diamantino opened a new early‑childhood unit of the CNEC, enrolling more than 280 children and attracting hundreds of staff applicants.

The following day, 3 August, Guarulhos’ Subsecretaria de Proteção e Defesa Civil partnered with the municipal education department to deliver a six‑week civil‑defense curriculum to 5th‑grade students, covering first aid, fire safety, flood response, traffic safety and personal security. In Mato Grosso, the Ministry of the Public Prosecutor’s “Prevenção Começa na Escola” initiative used a theatrical play to raise awareness about child sexual abuse, bullying and school‑heritage protection, reaching about 3,200 students across five municipalities. Together, these actions illustrate a coordinated push by local governments and partners to broaden academic support and embed preventive education for thousands of Brazilian children.
