Brazilian cities Itabuna and Goiânia host inter‑neighborhood football tournaments
The municipality of Itabuna (Bahia) organized the fourth round of its Interbairros Football Championship on Sunday, 2 August. Eight matches were played across four venues, with teams such as Nova Ferradas, Roça do Povo, and São José competing. The event is run by the city’s Sports and Leisure Secretariat, led by José Alcântara Pellegrini, and sponsored by DuraGás and the Associação de Fomento Social, which together provide a R$47,000 prize pool for the winners.
In Goiânia (Goiás), the Taça Semel Interbairros 2026 begins on 8 August. The tournament features 32 amateur teams in a knockout format, with games scheduled at eight neighbourhood fields. Coronel Luiz Alberto Sardinha Bites, the municipal Sports and Leisure secretary, highlighted the goal of strengthening community integration through sport. The competition offers R$20,000 in total prizes, including R$12,000 for the champion, and supplies uniforms to the sixteen teams that reach the round of 16.
