Sinop authors release 'Rompendo o Silêncio' series on domestic violence
Facilitators of restorative justice in Sinop, Kelen Galvão and Jaqueline Diel, turned their experience with women’s peace‑building circles into a three‑book collection titled “Rompendo o Silêncio”.
The collection, launched on 1 July at Shopping Sinop, includes: • “Você conhece o X?” – explains the international silent‑SOS hand signal and encourages solidarity; • “Você conhece a Lei Maria da Penha?” – presents, in simple language, the rights afforded by Brazil’s domestic‑violence law, covering physical, psychological, moral, patrimonial and verbal abuse; • “Agora Chega!” – draws on stories from circle participants to promote female autonomy, break the cycle of violence and stress the importance of peer support.
The books aim to educate children, adolescents and adults about violence prevention and legal protection, extending the reach of the Justice Restorative program beyond the school‑based circles where the authors first worked.
The initiative was developed in partnership with the Mato Grosso judiciary’s Restorative Justice hub and the municipal education secretariat, and it is linked to the “Renascendo em Círculo” project that meets women experiencing domestic abuse at the Sinop Forum.
