Brazilian cities Olímpia and Porto Alegre advance municipal economic development plans

Representatives from government, industry, commerce and technology gathered for the inaugural meeting of the Conselho Municipal de Desenvolvimento Econômico (Comdeo) in Olímpia. Attendees discussed strengthening the 4th Industrial District, attracting new investment, the proposed International Airport, smart‑city initiatives and a regulatory sandbox. The council also reviewed progress on the Conecta+Olímpia program, funded with R$ 36.2 million from BNDES, and the creation of the Apestor association to boost higher‑education and tech training.

In Porto Alegre, the Comitê Municipal de Desenvolvimento Econômico held its first session of the year, with Mayor Sebastião Melo and municipal secretaries present. The agenda covered the city’s liberal‑economic reforms that simplify business registration, the “Comércio Só Legal” program, the Investor Room for strategic enterprises, flood‑protection projects funded with R$ 2.3 billion, and urban‑planning actions linked to a new master plan. The meeting also introduced the POAISS tax‑optimization scheme, offering up to 95% reductions on ISS penalties to encourage regularisation of service‑tax debts.
