Brazilian cities roll out free dog and cat vaccinations and veterinary care

In Cuiabá, the municipal animal‑welfare office carried out a free vaccination campaign on 20 June at the city kennel, administering 674 doses to dogs and cats – 300 polyvalent and 374 rabies shots. The event also featured an adoption fair and announced a follow‑up campaign in the Nico Baracat neighbourhood on 11 July.

In Fortaleza, the municipal Secretariat of Animal Protection launched a mobile veterinary unit (VetMóvel) operating from 23 June to 4 July in the Bom Jardim and Messejana districts. The service provides free clinical consultations, rabies vaccinations, diagnostic tests and scheduled sterilizations for pets, with appointments arranged through a city hotline.

Pet owners in both cities praised the initiatives; one Cuiabá resident said, “I lost a dog to distemper, so keeping vaccinations up to date is very important.” The programs aim to improve animal health, prevent zoonotic diseases and encourage responsible pet ownership across Brazil.
