Brazil coffee harvest delays lift New York prices over 3%

Heavy rains in Brazil’s main coffee region slowed the 2026/27 harvest, leaving only about 64 % of the crop collected by mid‑July, well below the 77 % recorded a year earlier and the five‑year average of 70 %. In the week to 26 July, Minas Gerais recorded 32.4 mm of rain – roughly 2 700 % of the historical weekly average – raising concerns about bean quality and supply.

These supply worries, together with a technical correction after last week’s losses, pushed New York‑traded Arabica futures for September up 3.43 % to 324.55 cents per pound (US$ 3.2455), equivalent to about R$ 2.19 per 60‑kg sack. London‑traded Robusta futures rose about 1.12 % to US$ 3.799 per tonne. The market also noted that Arabica inventories fell to a 2½‑year low of roughly 311 317 bags while Robusta stocks rose to a four‑and‑a‑half‑month high of about 4 254 lots. The USDA forecasts Brazil’s coffee crop to reach a record 71.9 million bags, a 14 % increase year‑on‑year, but ongoing El Niño conditions could affect future harvests.
