Brazilian Congress fears leaks amid Banco Master investigation

Leaders in the Brazilian Congress are expressing concern over potential widespread leaks stemming from the Banco Master investigation. This anxiety follows an institutional crisis within the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and a recent Federal Police operation against Deputy Cezinha de Madureira regarding parliamentary amendment transparency.

Legislators fear being caught in the crossfire of disputes between STF ministers. Tensions escalated after President Lula advocated for the lifting of secrecy surrounding the Master case, a move partially granted by Justice Edson Fachin. This development is viewed by some as a “Pandora’s box” that could impact upcoming state elections.

Concerns are further fueled by a document titled “Câmara” allegedly found at the residence of Senator Ciro Nogueira. The Federal Police are investigating Nogueira’s relationship with businessman Daniel Vorcaro, including allegations of shared travel expenses. Additionally, Senator Damares Alves has claimed that the STF interfered with Senate investigations by restricting access to documents, suggesting the court sought to prevent lawmakers from uncovering the full truth regarding the bank and its associates.
