Brazilian consumer agencies seize fuel pumps over quality issues

Consumer protection agencies in Brazil have conducted inspections at gas stations, resulting in the seizure of fuel pumps due to quality irregularities.

In Campos, Procon officials inspected a station in the Parque Turfe Clube neighborhood following reports of issues with additive gasoline. Testing identified the fuel as irregular, leading to the immediate interdiction of the additive gasoline pumps. The establishment was required to provide documentation, including compliance bulletins and purchase invoices.

In Imperatriz, Procon identified common gasoline that failed to meet National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) specifications. The fuel was found to have an alcohol content exceeding 36%, which is above the permitted limit. Authorities noted that such irregularities can damage vehicle engines and reduce fuel autonomy. Inspectors also monitored for 'low pumps,' where the volume of fuel delivered is less than what is displayed on the meter.
