Brazilian Courts Advance Land Mediation and Citizenship Programs
In Alagoas, Judge Robério Monteiro de Souza, coordinator of the Regional Commission for Land Solutions, met with officials from the Ministry of Agrarian Development, the National Agrarian Ombudsman and INCRA to coordinate strategies for resolving longstanding land conflicts in the Laginha and Guaxuma areas. The meeting aimed to consolidate case handling, prevent violence and prepare for a forthcoming conference between Minister Fernanda Machiaveli and Governor Paulo Dantas on land‑conflict and possession‑recovery measures.
In Bahia, Judge Euler José Ribeiro led community‑focused actions through the Tribunal de Justiça da Bahia. A school‑forum visited a local elementary school to discuss citizenship topics such as drug use, bullying, online crime, racism and respect. Concurrently, the "Project Father Present" offered free DNA tests to facilitate voluntary paternity recognition, strengthening family ties and ensuring the right to filiation.
Both initiatives reflect the Brazilian judiciary’s push to broaden access to justice, reduce social conflict and foster civic education.
