Brazilian Deputy Gerson Claro Calls for Cultural Shift to Combat Violence Against Women

Deputy Gerson Claro (PP) of Mato Grosso do Sul reaffirmed his commitment to fight violence against women during a state legislative session on 14 May, stressing that confronting the crime requires not only punishing aggressors but also transforming societal attitudes toward machismo and misogyny.

He supported the pending national Misogyny Bill and highlighted state‑level initiatives such as the “Todos por Elas” program and the newly launched Conecta Promuse platform, which enables police to record real‑time inspections of women under protective orders and automatically forward the data to judicial processes, aiming to strengthen education, prevention and protection mechanisms.
