Brazilian driver found dead in France after disappearance

Bruno Fernando Rego, a 28-year-old Brazilian driver from Capivari, São Paulo, has been found dead in France after disappearing in Paris. Although his body was located on July 8, his family was only notified of his death on September 7.

Rego had been living in France for approximately one year, working as an independent app-based driver to earn money for his four-year-old daughter’s medical treatment in Brazil. His disappearance was first noted by a friend who lost contact after regular video calls. According to his sister, Beatriz Rego, he had previously lost his passport and disappeared without his personal belongings or documents.

The family reported difficulties in the investigation, noting that authorities had not provided information regarding a rented vehicle used by Rego, despite it having a tracking system. The investigation faced challenges due to French laws regarding the ‘right to disappear,’ which allow adults to distance themselves voluntarily. The Consulate-General of Brazil in Paris and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been involved in providing consular assistance to the family.
