Brazilian education leaders meet with OECD in Paris
Brazilian higher education managers met with representatives from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris to discuss challenges regarding access and investment in the sector.
During the meeting, OECD analyst Simon Roy presented data from the ‘Education at a Glance’ report. The findings indicate that 25% of Brazilians aged 25 to 34 hold a higher education degree, which is significantly lower than the 49% average among OECD member nations.
The report also highlighted a decline in Brazilian education investment, with the share of GDP allocated to the sector dropping from 5.5% in 2015 to 4.5% in 2023. Despite this decrease, the Brazilian percentage remains above the OECD average of 4%.
Janguiê Diniz, president of the Brazilian Association of Higher Education Maintainers (ABMES), stated that the meeting helped expand the debate on youth access to higher education and emphasized the need for strategic partnerships and innovation in the private sector.
