Brazil Electoral Court launches accessibility program for 2026 elections

Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has launched the ‘Seu Voto Importa’ program to enhance accessibility for the 2026 elections. The initiative provides free individual transportation for voters with disabilities or reduced mobility, including the elderly, pregnant women, and people with children. For the first round on October 4, interested voters must submit requests by September 14 through regional electoral courts (TREs) or online.

Regional courts in states like São Paulo and Bahia are implementing the service, with São Paulo offering support in over 300 cities. To ensure broader reach, the TSE has formed partnerships with institutions such as the Labor Court (TST) and the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). The program also extends support to indigenous and quilombola communities.

In addition to transportation, electronic voting machines are being upgraded with accessibility features. These include the Atkinson Hyperlegible font to assist voters with low vision, progress bars, and expanded Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) capabilities to indicate null or blank votes. Furthermore, the e-Título mobile app allows voters to justify their absence remotely using geolocation technology.
