Brazilian engineer Gabriele Monteiro found in Lyon after four days

Gabriele da Silva Monteiro, a 33‑34‑year‑old Brazilian engineer living in Lyon, disappeared on Thursday 23 July 2026. She was last seen by a neighbour in the building elevator around midday, after leaving home for a medical appointment and preparing luggage for a weekend trip. Her husband returned home at about 17:00, found the apartment empty, and filed a missing‑person report; French police opened an investigation. The Brazilian community in Lyon and the Brazilian consulate (Itamaraty) mobilised, sharing alerts and supporting the search.

After four days of intensive searches, the family confirmed on Monday 27 July 2026 that Gabriele had been located alive. She was reported to be in good physical condition and receiving medical care while remaining with relatives. The family thanked the “solidarity chain” that kept the searches active.

Authorities are also investigating the separate disappearances of two teenagers – 16‑year‑old Brazilian student Alice Oliveira and Cape Verdean resident Maria de Fátima Pina Monteiro – who vanished a few days earlier. Relatives believe the girls may have been together, possibly heading toward Marseille, and police continue to search for them.
