Brazilian fashion events highlight sustainable, circular designs

At the Festival Gastronômico da Lagoa de Iriry in Rio das Ostras, Nova Dona Moda Circular debuted its circular‑fashion concept, offering second‑hand clothing, bags and accessories to promote reuse and reduce environmental impact. The brand was founded by designer Keila Moreira, who aims to make sustainable fashion accessible.

The 7th edition of Maranhão Fashion Week in São Luís emphasized local authorial fashion and sustainability, featuring a talk on “Moda Autoral Maranhense: Identidade que Gera Valor”. The event highlighted that the state’s clothing sector comprises 848 companies, employs 1,958 people—61% of whom are women—and recorded a 2023 revenue of R$ 107.8 million, a 48.4% increase from the previous year.

Vale Fashion in São José dos Campos presented the “As Bananas” collection by designer Julia Pantaleão, created from banana‑fiber sourced in the Vale do Ribeira. The line showcased crocheted, embroidered and woven pieces made by local artisans such as Dinalva Belisario Temerario, Maria Carmen Oliveira Lima and Magaly Antonia, with support from Sebrae‑SP, underscoring the link between regional craft and sustainable fashion.
