Sustainable fashion events in Brazil

Overview

In late July and August 2026, Brazil highlighted sustainable fashion through a series of high‑profile events. The Rio Ethical Fashion forum, held on 5‑6 August as part of Rio Innovation Week, marked its sixth edition and positioned sustainable fashion as a driver of technological and economic transformation. Panels explored consumer behavior, AI‑driven craftsmanship, circularity and business ethics, featuring designers, journalists and industry figures, with sponsorship from Sebrae and the Dutch Consulate. A week later, other regional showcases emphasized the same themes. At the Festival Gastronômico da Lagoa de Iriry in Rio das Ostras, Nova Dona Moda Circular debuted a circular‑fashion concept offering second‑hand clothing and accessories to promote reuse. Maranhão Fashion Week in São Luís underscored local authorial fashion and sustainability, highlighting the sector’s growth and employment figures. Vale Fashion in São José dos Campos presented a collection made from banana‑fiber sourced in the Vale do Ribeira, linking regional craft with eco‑friendly design and receiving support from Sebrae‑SP. Expanding on these themes, the São Paulo Climate Week 2026 featured discussions on the necessity of a sustainable transition across the entire productive chain. In late August, the focus shifted toward bioeconomy and technical craftsmanship. In Amazonas, the 4th edition of Amazon Poranga Fashion in Manaus highlighted the intersection of fashion and Amazonian identity. Designers Siodohi and Regina Ramos launched the ‘Gigantio’ collection, utilizing leather from sustainable pirarucu fish management. Developed with Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS), the project employs blockchain technology to ensure material traceability. According to Wildney Mourão, FAS entrepreneurship program manager, the project aims to transform Amazonian sociobiodiversity into economic opportunities, generating income for local communities while promoting environmental conservation through innovation and creativity.
