Brazilian father granted custody after ex‑wife marries convicted rapist

A São Paulo court gave provisional custody of an 11‑year‑old boy to his father, lawyer Amilton Augusto da Silva Júnior, after the child's mother, lawyer Karina Kufa, married convicted businessman Thiago Brennand, who has multiple convictions including rape. Amilton said he will take all legal measures to protect the child and, because the case is sealed, cannot disclose further details. Kufa condemned the ruling as "violence" and an "attack on women," while the father warned that the situation was "not normal" for a child.

The custody decision sparked public debate over the impact of a convicted offender's marriage on parental rights, with the father emphasizing his duty to keep the child safe amidst the controversy.
