Virginia Fonseca ordered to delete illegal betting ads

The Tribunal de Justiça of the Federal District ordered influencer Virginia Fonseca to remove all betting‑related advertising from her social‑media accounts within 48 hours. The court prohibited posts that suggest guaranteed profit, extra income, investment or any form of easy winnings, and required that any remaining advertising be clearly identified as commercial content. The decision, issued by Judge Renato Rodovalho Scussel after a request from the Public Ministry, also imposed a fine of R$ 100,000 for non‑compliance, with the total penalty initially capped at R$ 2 million.

The ruling follows a civil public action that seeks R$ 120 million in collective moral damages against both Fonseca and the online betting platform Blaze for allegedly abusive promotion of gambling. In a related proceeding, a separate court later excluded Fonseca, along with influencers Deolane Bezerra and Carlinhos Maia, from a lawsuit alleging that they caused a gambler’s compulsive‑gaming disorder, finding they were not direct parties to the betting contracts.

These judicial decisions reflect Brazil’s tightening regulatory stance on online gambling advertising, especially when promoted by digital influencers.
