Brazilian film festivals award Maranhão short and other national productions

The Maranhão‑produced short film “Mercado Central” by Tássia Dhur received four honors at the 30th Cine/PE Festival in Recife, including Best Film from the Brazilian Critics Association, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and the Popular Jury award. Dhur praised the achievement, saying it demonstrates the impact of the Paulo Gustavo Law in decentralising Brazilian cinema.

At the 15th Olhar de Cinema – Festival Internacional de Curitiba, a range of Brazilian titles were recognised. Janaína Marques’ drama “Fiz um Foguete Imaginando que Você Vinha” won Best Feature and shared the Best Acting award for Verônica Cavalcanti and Luciana Souza. The Alagoas‑based short “Olhe para Mim” secured Best Direction, Best Sound and Best Art Direction, while Nico da Costa’s “Pirexia” earned the top prize for national shorts. Additional awards highlighted works such as “Um Calendário Incompleto” (Best International Feature) and “Dragão” (Best International Short).
