Brazilian football clubs seek new sponsors amid betting ad restrictions

Brazilian football clubs are actively seeking new sponsorship alternatives following a federal provisional measure that restricts the advertising and operation of fixed-odds betting houses. This regulatory shift has created significant financial uncertainty for clubs that rely heavily on betting revenue.

Cimed, a pharmaceutical company already sponsoring Palmeiras and Cruzeiro, is currently negotiating with over ten clubs to occupy spaces previously held by betting companies. The company aims to use these opportunities to promote consumer goods such as personal hygiene and beauty products.

Other clubs are pursuing specific strategic shifts. Corinthians is in talks with a financial education firm to potentially occupy its master sponsorship slot, focusing on responsible gambling awareness. São Paulo FC is considering temporary, one-to-two match sponsorships with existing partners like Unimed Seguros to fill gaps left by Superbet. Meanwhile, Palmeiras continues to maintain its partnership with Sportingbet in official communications while navigating the practical limitations imposed by the new regulations on match-day branding.
