Brazilian government delivers boats and homes to riverine communities in Pará

In Belém, the federal Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship handed over a fleet of boats to the child‑protection councils of the Marajó archipelago. Minister Janine Mello said the vessels will enable rapid response across the 17 island municipalities, noting, “When the street is river, what we need is a boat, not a car.” The delivery is part of a broader effort to equip and train counselors who safeguard children and adolescents in the region.

The Ministry of Cities also inaugurated the first batch of sustainable housing units on the Ilha do Combu under the Minha Casa Minha Vida Rural program. Five homes were handed to riverine families, featuring rain‑water collection, solar power and ecologically produced masonry. Beneficiary Ângela Maria Soares expressed her joy, saying, “Muita emoção… é uma alegria muito grande de eu estar nesta casa maravilhosa.” The project, backed by R$ 3.375 million, aims to regularize land tenure for 45 families and complete the remaining units by the next semester.
