Brazilian government grants land regularization to over 2,900 quilombola families

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced a package of land‑regularisation measures that will benefit more than 2,900 quilombola families, covering about 36,100 hectares across several Brazilian regions. The announcement was made during the opening of the III National Meeting of Quilombola Women in Brasília and was accompanied by the reinstatement of the National Forum of Quilombola Women.

At the same event, organizers launched the climate‑justice publication *Vozes Quilombolas: Mulheres em Defesa do Clima*, a diagnostic compiling the experiences, knowledge and strategies of quilombola women to confront climate impacts. Coordinating member Micele said, “O espaço é de importância para retomar as próprias narrativas.” The document highlights both the threats posed by environmental change and the ancestral practices of territorial care, calling for the state to incorporate these perspectives into environmental policy and to address environmental racism.

Ministers of Racial Equality, Agricultural Development and Women’s Affairs emphasized that the land‑titles and credit lines from Incra will support production, housing and cultural initiatives in quilombola communities, reinforcing the government’s broader agenda of racial and gender inclusion.
