Paraná expands free flu vaccine to entire population

From Monday June 29, 2026 the State Health Secretariat of Paraná (Sesa) will make the seasonal influenza vaccine available to all residents aged six months and older. The rollout, authorized by the Inter‑agency Management Committee (CIB/PR), follows the state’s earlier school‑based campaign and aims to raise overall coverage beyond the 47 % rate already achieved among priority groups (children, elderly, pregnant women, health workers), which is above the national average of 42 %.

The program targets roughly 4.8 million people, with 4.2 million doses distributed and more than 2.3 million doses administered to date, placing Paraná fifth among Brazilian states in absolute numbers of vaccinations. Municipalities will organise the vaccination sites, covering over 1,800 rooms across the 399 municipalities of the state. Officials stress that while the vaccine is free for everyone, vulnerable groups should be prioritised to reduce severe flu cases during the winter season.
