Brazilian institutions launch initiatives to combat violence against women
Various Brazilian institutions are implementing initiatives to combat domestic and family violence against women through education, legal support, and social assistance networks.
In Votuporanga, the third edition of the ‘Masculinidades em Transformação’ project has launched. A partnership between Senac Votuporanga, the Judiciary, the local government, and the Central de Atenção ao Egresso e Família (CAEF), the program focuses on the reflection and accountability of men who have committed violence. The initiative aims to transform behaviors and break cycles of violence through meetings on gender relations and non-violent communication. Previous editions have reportedly resulted in no new violence records among participants.
In São Joaquim, local agencies including the OAB, the Judiciary, CRAS, CREAS, and the Guardianship Council held a meeting to strengthen the municipal protection network. Led by Judge Hildemar Meneguzzi de Carvalho from the Santa Catarina Court of Justice, the discussion focused on integrated action for identifying violence and providing proper guidance. The meeting also highlighted the ‘Sinal Vermelho’ (Red Signal) campaign, which allows women in danger to discreetly signal for help.
