Brazilian institutions launch networks to combat violence against women

Brazilian institutions are launching new networks to combat violence against women. In Pernambuco, the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-PE) established the Network to Combat Gender-Based Political Violence. This initiative brings together eight institutions, including the Federal Police, the Public Defender's Office, and the Public Ministry, to improve access to reporting channels and coordinate responses to protect women participating in politics.

On a national level, the Court of Accounts of Piauí (TCE-PI) has joined the National Network of External Control for the Protection of Women (Rede que Protege). Launched by the Association of Members of the Courts of Accounts of Brazil (Atricon), this network aims to evaluate public policies regarding violence prevention, victim assistance, and perpetrator accountability. The move comes amid concerning statistics from the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook, which reported a record 1,492 femicides in 2024.
