Trial of ex‑deputy’s son Carlos Bezerra rescheduled to July 21, 2026, public hearing in Cuiabá

The 1st Criminal Court of Cuiabá lifted the secrecy of the criminal action that investigates the deaths of Thays Machado and Willian Cesar Moreno. Judge Mônica Catarina Perri Siqueira authorized public attendance at the trial of Carlos Alberto Gomes Bezerra, son of former federal deputy Carlos Bezerra, after the defense requested a new date.

The trial, originally set for 7 July, was moved to 21 July 2026 at 09:00. Bezerra, a confessor who remains in custody, is charged with femicide and qualified homicide. Prosecutors allege the crimes were committed with extreme cruelty, motive torpe, and within a context of domestic and gender‑based violence. The judge found no concrete risk to the privacy of victims or third parties that would justify maintaining secrecy.

Media coverage of the session will be limited to the official press office of the Mato Grosso Court of Justice; live broadcast is prohibited and filming that could reveal the defendant or jurors is forbidden. The public may attend the proceedings in person.
