Camila Jara barred from FIEMS event triggers political backlash

On July 30, federal deputy Camila Jara (PT‑MS) was denied entry to an event at the Federação das Indústrias do Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul (FIEMS) in Campo Grande. The exclusion was ordered by FIEMS president Sérgio Longen while Minister of Finance Dario Durigan was present. Durigan publicly repudiated the action, stating that “a representative of the people of Mato Grosso do Sul must have a seat at any event…”. The PT bench in the Chamber expressed solidarity, denouncing the treatment as gender‑based violence and calling it “inaceitável”. A federal delegation, including Senator Soraya Thronicke, visited FIEMS later that day, meeting with ministers and industry leaders; Jara advocated for policies to strengthen the state’s industry. The incident highlighted concerns about gender violence, political protocol, and the relationship between federal officials and regional industry bodies.
