Brazilian Lawmakers Target Online Betting Advertising
State deputy Wellington do Curso presented six bills in the Maranhão legislature aimed at curbing online betting advertisements and sponsorships funded with public money. The proposals seek to protect families, address super‑indebtedness and gambling‑related mental‑health issues, and establish preventive campaigns similar to suicide‑prevention initiatives.
Deputy Camila Toscano of Paraíba attended the National Conference of State Legislatures in Chicago, where she joined panels on sports‑betting regulation, problem‑gambling prevention and treatment. She highlighted the need to learn from international experiences to shape responsible policies in Brazil and to safeguard vulnerable populations.
