Brazilian municipal education workers confront strike talks and deferred‑break decree

In Campo Grande, mayor Adriane Lopes (PP) is set to deliver a proposal to the teachers’ union ACP on Tuesday, offering a 3.4% salary increase after the union demanded a 5.4% raise. The move aims to avert a possible strike in the municipal school system, with union leaders planning an assembly to consider the offer.

In Cuiabá, councilwoman Maysa Leão appealed to the municipal education secretariat to enforce Decree 12.215, which guarantees a holiday period for caregivers of students with disabilities (CADs). She reported that, despite the decree, some school directors continue to summon these staff to work during the school vacation, and urged uniform compliance across the network.
