Brazilian municipal programs provide free sports schools for thousands of children
The municipality has opened online registration for the "Esporte para o Futuro" program, offering free sports classes to children and adolescents aged 6 to 14. Up to 5,000 spots are available across a wide range of activities, including football, futsal, handball, swimming, table tennis, beach volleyball, karate, judo, rhythmic gymnastics and more, all supervised by qualified professionals.
In Criciúma, the Fundação Municipal de Esportes (FME) continues the initiative, enrolling youngsters such as nine‑year‑old twins Alice and Isabel Volpato in rhythmic‑gymnastics classes. The program aims to promote physical activity, social integration and reduced screen time among youth, while also serving as a talent‑development pathway.
Both efforts are presented as tools for healthier development, citizenship education and potential future sports careers for participants.
