Brazilian municipalities expand zoonosis surveillance and specialized services

Municipal health departments in Brazil are expanding zoonosis surveillance and specialized services. In Presidente Prudente, the Zoonosis Surveillance Unit (UVZ) has launched an itinerant program to bring services directly to various districts. Recent actions in Ameliópolis included 109 services, such as rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats, microchipping, and blood collection for canine visceral leishmaniasis diagnosis.

In Goiânia, the Municipal Health Secretariat is advising citizens against attempting to manage bee swarms independently. The Zoonosis Surveillance Directorate reported 616 swarm removal services so far this year, noting a significant increase in occurrences during August and September due to heat and reproduction cycles. Authorities recommend isolating the area and contacting specialized teams if a swarm remains in a location for more than two days.
