Brazilian municipalities extend free HPV vaccine to teens through Dec 31

The municipal health secretariats of Ubá and Cuiabá announced that the free HPV vaccination campaign for adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 19 has been extended until 31 December 2026. In Ubá, the program will continue to offer the vaccine at basic health units, requiring only an ID and vaccination card, aiming to raise coverage and protect against HPV‑related cancers. Cuiabá likewise guarantees access at all 72 Family Health Units across the city and rural zones, with some clinics operating extended hours to facilitate attendance. Local officials highlighted the strategy as a “rescue” effort to reach youths who missed the routine schedule, citing recent coverage rates of 86.5 % for girls and 43.5 % for boys in the 15‑19 age group. Both cities urge eligible young people to visit the nearest health unit before the deadline to receive the dose at no cost.
