Brazilian municipalities launch mosquito control campaigns

Health authorities in Votuporanga and Igrejinha, Brazil, are conducting mobilization efforts to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector for dengue, chikungunya, and zika.

In Votuporanga, health teams will visit residences in the Vila América neighborhood to eliminate breeding sites and provide preventive guidance. The city has reported 556 confirmed dengue cases and 83 cases under investigation, alongside one confirmed case of chikungunya.

In Igrejinha, the 'Desapega' project, a partnership between the Health and Public Works secretariats, will collect disposable items such as tires, bottles, and plastic containers that could accumulate rainwater. These biweekly actions are guided by 'Ovitrampas' monitoring, which identifies areas with high infestation rates to target interventions.
