Brazilian municipalities launch school-based traffic safety programs

Municipal traffic authorities in Brazil are implementing educational initiatives to improve road safety through school-based programs.

In Ilhéus, the Authority for Transport, Traffic, and Mobility (SUTRAM) is developing a permanent traffic education program in partnership with local schools. The project involves training teachers through workshops and allowing schools to create customized projects supported by SUTRAM’s Traffic Education Nucleus. The goal is to integrate road safety into the permanent school curriculum to foster responsible behavior among future drivers and pedestrians.

In Caucaia, the Municipal Traffic Authority (AMT) is conducting month-long activities in observance of National Traffic Week. The program includes educational circuits in public and private schools, featuring simulated traffic environments with signs, signals, and pedestrian crossings to teach children safe practices. Additionally, AMT is conducting educational checkpoints in various neighborhoods to provide guidance to drivers and distribute safety-related kits.
