Caixa's Mortgage Portfolio Reaches R$1 Trillion Amid Minha Casa, Minha Vida Expansion
The Federal Savings Bank (Caixa Econômica Federal) reported that its housing‑credit portfolio hit R$1 trillion in June, with 58.4% of the amount coming from the federal “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” program. The bank said the portfolio grew 14% over the previous year and that Caixa now accounts for about 68% of all mortgage financing in Brazil.
Local authorities are also rolling out new allocations under the same program. The city of Canoas published an edital naming candidates for the 200‑unit Residencial Jacuí project, aimed at families affected by recent floods and requiring documentation such as identity, CPF, and proof of residence. In Governador Valadares, the municipal housing department opened applications for 500 units in the Castanheiras I and II developments, targeting families with monthly incomes up to R$3,200 who are registered in the CadÚnico system. Applications close on 31 July and no fees are charged.
Both the national credit milestone and the municipal allocations reflect the continued emphasis of Brazilian public policy on expanding affordable housing for low‑income households.
