Brazilian municipalities Ouro Preto and Itabira record rising revenues and budget proposals for 2026‑2027

The city of Ouro Preto reported municipal revenue of R$477.1 million in the first half of 2026, a 13.5% increase over the same period in 2025. Monthly average collections rose to R$79.5 million, with June alone up 24.8% year‑on‑year. The growth was driven by the municipal service tax (ISS), state‑level ICMS transfers, royalties from mineral exploitation and other constitutional funds.

In Itabira, the municipal council held a public hearing to discuss the 2027 budget guidelines. The mayor’s proposal projects total revenue of R$1.204 billion for 2027, roughly 5.5% higher than the 2026 estimate of R$1.141 billion and close to the inflation forecast of 3.84%. Council member Bernardo Rosa said, “There is a provision in the Fiscal Responsibility Law that these hearings be held by both the executive and the legislature to broaden citizen participation,” adding that residents may submit suggestions on health, infrastructure, and other priorities.

Both municipalities are using transparent budgeting processes and public consultations to shape their financial plans for the coming years.
