Brazilian municipalities roll out energy‑saving schemes for households

The city of Ribeirão Pires in São Paulo partnered with Enel Distribuição São Paulo to launch the first local edition of the “Enel Compartilha Eficiência” program. On 20 May, 150 residents received free replacements of old refrigerators with energy‑efficient models and LED bulbs, aiming to cut electricity consumption for customers with average monthly use of up to 250 kWh. Mayor Guto Volpi said the initiative “reduces family expenses and promotes responsible use of our energy resources.”

In Mato Grosso do Sul, 74 municipalities signed letters of intent to join the “Programa Em Conta,” a scheme that can lower electricity bills by up to 20 % through solar‑generated credit compensation. The move was driven by state deputy Paulo Corrêa and the Federation of Industries of Mato Grosso do Sul (FIEMS). Participants will receive the discount without installing new equipment, delivering direct savings to thousands of families across the state.
