Brazilian municipalities roll out financial, health and betting ad bans

The city of Mairiporã (São Paulo state) issued a decree allowing the municipal executive to sign agreements with financial institutions and health‑plan providers. The arrangement lets active, retired and pensioned public servants obtain loans, financing, credit cards and other benefits such as dental and funeral services, with repayments limited to up to 10 % of their pension base and in compliance with Central Bank regulations.

In Cuiabá, mayor Abilio Brunini announced a plan to prohibit advertising for sports‑betting platforms in public spaces, following a municipal indication and a copy of a similar restriction adopted by Rio de Janeiro. The measure, if approved by the legal department, would ban outdoor ads, billboards and other public‑area promotions for betting companies.

Goiânia’s administration reallocated R$ 28.2 million within the municipal budget to ensure the execution of councilors’ impositive amendments. The funds were transferred from the general expenses unit to the secretariat responsible for institutional articulation, without increasing overall spending, to enable partnerships with civil‑society organizations as defined by the amendments.
