Brazilian municipalities seek financing for infrastructure projects
Municipalities in Brazil are seeking or reviewing significant financing for infrastructure and public services.
In Votuporanga, Mayor Seba has submitted a bill to the City Council requesting authorization for R$ 21 million in loans from Desenvolve SP. The funds are intended to modernize public lighting by replacing 16,851 conventional lamps with LED technology, which is estimated to reduce energy consumption by approximately 51%. Additionally, R$ 10 million will be allocated to new asphalt paving and the construction of rainwater drainage systems. The proposed loans carry an interest rate of 11.5% per year plus IPCA correction, with repayment terms of up to 120 months for lighting and 72 months for paving and drainage.
In Poços de Caldas, City Council President Douglas Dofu has requested detailed information regarding two financing contracts with Caixa Econômica Federal totaling R$ 97.07 million. These funds, sourced from the FGTS, are designated for the expansion of the Water Treatment Station V (ETA V) and the installation of 600 bus shelters. The request seeks to clarify the financial conditions, guarantees, and the long-term impact these commitments may have on the municipal budget.
